Decorating with Pinterest

I have recently been having a really hard time figuring out exactly how Pinterest can be a viable way for companies to build their brand and boost comments and conversations about their goods and services. I have always loved Pinterest mostly for the amazing ideas and inspiration that can be drawn from scrolling through my favorite pinning board topics and pages but I have never been one to follow a particular brand or product. I usually search for gift ideas or random fashion/decoration help!

But this past weekend I had a different experience on Pinterest. I decided Thursday that I would completely remodel my bedroom because it would make for a good rainy weekend activity. When I initially started all I knew for sure was that there was a color scheme that I wanted to follow and that I really wanted to the room to feel coastal, soft, and relaxing. As I began down the journey of buying furniture, decorations, and paints I found a tremendous amount of help on Pinterest. I randomly decided to see if I could find some of my favorite Home Decor stores on the social media website. My two favorite Pinterest pages were HomeGoods and Bed Bath and Beyond. They both had beautiful pins under the Beach bedroom theme and they even had some of the furniture and decorations that were used in the pins at my local store. It was interesting because I really did not like what I found on Kirklands and Pottery Barn were not exactly what I was looking for so I did not even try shopping there when it was finally time for me to make purchases.

After going through this decorating experience with the assistance of Pinterest I can clearly see the impact that having pinning perfection plan can drive sales. Decorating definitely took me out of my comfort zone but I found a lot of reassurance after studying home decorating pins. This just goes to show how different social media channels can effect consumer purchase decisions.

  1. Great post. This post just gave me some ideas of boards that my company should create on our Pinterest page. People love looking at pictures and if a company can give them ideas on things to use or create then you can win new customers. As a marketer, it's great to read that you made your purchasing decisions based on what you saw on the HomeGoods & Bed Bath & Beyond's Pinterest pages.
